Today we had our first Chinese Lesson! Our teacher was very good. He taught us how to pronounce Chinese pinyin today. Each word consists of an initial, a finial and a tone. Tonight we have to practice our pronounciation for homework, in preparation for the exam this Friday. Today in class we covered basic greetings, and introductions, as well as how to tell time. I can now talk about my roommate, and say my name in Chinese! I already have a Chinese name, I’m happy I can now introduce myself. The class was long, but it covered a lot. The most useful thing I learned was the phrase Wo You which means I have. To say that I don’t have something, you need to say Wo meiyou. I hear it all the time now when I hear Chinese conversations.
