After a bus ride of Chinese and American sing-a-longs (Mo Li Hua and Wheels on the Bus), we made it to Brooklyn for the International Day of Friendship Parade. Having arrived early, we ran across the street to get coffee and a snack at Junior’s Cheesecake. Then we were checked in to the parade and managed to become delegate’s for the unclaimed flags.
While waiting for the parade to start, we talked with Chinese students and learned a little more about them and about China.
Together, we all walked to Brooklyn Borough Hall waving to the people in the streets along the way. After the ceremony we were treated to sandwiches and beverages and spent the rest of our time freely exploring the city.
The bus ride back to the hotel was quiet as most students had fallen asleep. I sat next to Arthur, a 19 year old Chinese student, and we discussed Chinese and American literature, Beijing Opera, and the farming culture of China.
