Summer (Palace) 16

The scenery at the Summer Palace was unlike anything that I’ve ever seen before.

From the moment we stepped on the tour bus, I knew today was going to be a good day. The tour guide was very bright and bubbly and could probably tell you facts and history on any building you wanted to know. I’m sure youxoukd point to. Ransom structure and he could tell you when it was built and by whom. I am not normally into tours and history but our guide kept me interested which was surprising but it does just how great he was.

When getting off the bus, we were greeted by the sun, heat, and extreme humidity. The weather in Beijing is unlimited anything I’ve ever experienced in my life. I knew it was going to be rough for being outside all day, but Lord, if we only knew. The views were amazing! Breathtaking. They were straight from a Hollywood movie. It hit me then that we were actually in China. I kept repeating that with every picture I took.

Climbing the mountain into the palace seemed like a great idea until we started. We were all so excited to climb and take a peek into history. As soon as I climbed 4 stairs and felt the sun on my back and the humidity clouding the air, I instantly regretted it. After the first few flights, the sweltering heat made me want to give up and walk back down. However, I knew that amazing views awaited me at the top so I kept pushing. 15 minutes and 2 breaks later I made it. The view was more then worth it.

We continued out journey around the path learning about everything on our way. Beijing is so gorgeous; but the heat made me want to die. Luckily I had a change of shirt because my purple shirt was wet as is I just jumped in a pool. There is no way I can wear that shirt again anytime soon. Everyone was drenched from head to toe by the time we stopped for lunch. We stopped amongst the pond and ate lunch against the skyline.

We tried to buy water at every stand but no one took American dollars. We knew that we had to exchange our money as soon as possible. We stopped at the Banknof China in the way home to do so. Day “one” was a blast.
