Today’s programming was so very well put together. We began our morning venturing to a pretty swanky hotel to witness a Chinese game, Go. Today was the national match against the two top players in the world. We were allowed to see the room and players first hand. This was a once in a lifetime experience.
At first I had no idea what Chinese Go was nor did I have any idea on how to play. Luckily we were able to tour the “Chinese Go House” and see where some players train and others learn to play. Here, we learned the history of the game and learned just how smart and successful our guide was. Just like chess, Go requires immense concentration and impeccable decision making; skills that help a player even with school.
After a delicious lunch, we went to a training school and received a “one on one” lesson with a professional player. It was fun to see just how logical the game was. We were then given the opportunity to play. I was not very good but I enjoyed it. I appreciate how today’s activities were tied together so seamlessly and we were able to participate. I want to thank the professional players for the lesson and the board to play at the dorm!
