Chi Chi and I began our day with an alarm clock that went off far too early. Hoping to catch a few minutes until it was absolutely time to get up and head to the bus, we pressed snooze a few more times.
We caught the bus just in time as it embarked on its three minute trip down the road to the Somerset Hotel. Here we started our orientation. After going through the schedule and signing waivers, we began getting to know each other. Group introductions and a long round of ‘Never Have I Ever’ (I almost won by the way) and a story jigsaw later, we met the Chinese Students and played ‘Two Truths and a Lie’. We then created a story using random given words.
After orientation we headed off to a Chinese buffet for lunch. I learned that I really love edamame and need serious work on using chopsticks. We then gathered on the bus to head to Manhattan. There, we tried to compete a Central Park scavenger hunt but was beat out by the rain. A few naps later we arrived at another buffet for dinner. I found my favorite food/ dessert, plantains, and hope that I can find some in Beijing!
