Today we had the opportunity to visit one of my favorite areas of Beijing, a hutong. While hutong’s are great places for shopping and their were tons of opportunities for shopping there, this is not why I like the hutong. I was once taught that when visiting another country you should visit the poorest people because their you will find the richest culture. So a few of us took off and explored to see how everyday people live.
What we discovered was that the people seemed very content living how they were and did not want to be bothered by the bustle of the city that was encircling them. The hutong is just a bunch of people trying to live their lives and that is something that I can certainly appreciate.
