While Donald Trump is prattling on about making America great again from his ivory tower back in the states, the Great Wall of China has clearly never stopped being great.
Our visit to the Great Wall today was easily one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had in my life. We had to climb over 1,000 steps in order to reach the Great Wall, but the exhausting trek was worth every moment we got to spend on the spine of history, because the moment I stepped off of those stairs and looked out to see mountain peaks stretching on for what seemed like forever from our place on the wall, I forgot all about the heat and the throbbing in my sprained ankle. As Chloe, Nicole, and I continued our way to the top of the wall, I had no idea what to look at, there was simply so much to take in! There was the clear blue sky (the clearest since our arrival in Beijing!) overlooking chains of green mountains, all of which surrounded the wall, which snaked along the earth for as far as the eye can see. I have no doubt as to why this incredible behemoth of an infrastructure was named one of the 7 wonders of the world!
After our visit to the Great Wall of China, we got to go to the Beijing National Stadium where the 2008 Olympics were held. While we didn’t get to go inside of the Bird’s Nest, we did get to stroll around the stadium, which was really pleasant. That said, it’s hard to believe that we’ve only been in Beijing since Wednesday night. While time has gone by super quickly with all of the breathtaking places we have been to and the awesome things we have done and learned, I also feel as though we have been in this wonderful city for so much longer, and look forward to making more new memories to fly back home with me!
