Sunday, August 7th

If I thought yesterday was tiring, I had no idea what I was in for today. We spent the whole day in the same place, but it was quite an elaborate adventure. Not only did we get to see Brooklyn’s Third Annual Friendship Day, we were given the opportunity to march in the parade ourselves. This required some pretty hefty flag carrying as we each represented a different country. Not only did this event give us the opportunity to partake in one of Brooklyn’s younger traditions, it also gave us the opportunity to meet both locals and people visiting from abroad. Following the parade was a cultural show consisting primarily of music and or dance from all over the world. The music was wonderful to hear, and we even had the opportunity to learn some dances ourselves! Our favorite dances were to traditional Indian music. We were taught to raise our arms straight up in the air and move our feet pointing our toes upwards. It was wonderful for both cultures, both the American and Chinese students to bond over even a third culture!

This photo is of Truman carrying a flag. To the left of Truman is Matt, a South African man who was a delegate for the country. Matt shared lots of great stories with us!
